Effective Digital Tools
Chromebooks: These are great tools for students to use to do research, type papers, or read texts online. I try to checkout our chromebook cart as often as possible to teach students how to use the internet and complete effective searches. They are also perfect for creating a center or for teaching students how to use google and google docs. They are also much cheaper than laptops and could be a great Donor

NewsELA: This site is great for finding non-fiction texts at different lexile levels that discuss news around the world that are high interest for kids. These texts can be read online or printed out and have quiz questions that accompany them. These articles are great for engaging kids in what is happening around the world and they come at different lexiles. I used it to initiate discussion for socratic seminars. https://newsela.com/
Prezi: Resource for creating engaging and stimulating presentations for kids and adults. It's a nice alternative to using powerpoint. I created my presentation on Spry and Chicago using Prezi and shared it with the students at Leyte National High School in the Philippines, they love it! https://prezi.com/
Gmail Video Chat: I used video chat in gmail when I was in the Philippines. After my three weeks in Tacloban I extended my stay and visited my grandmother in Da Sol, which is located in Northern Luzon. I used video chat on gmail to help my grandmother see and talk to my sister in Sarasota Florida, it was incredible! Technology can really do amazing things, so if you're interested in setting up pen pals, your students can also use gmail to video chat with their international friends!
Kahoot It: This is a game based website that is great to use for class quizzes and surveys. I use it for multiplication quizzes, science. At the end of the day, Kahoot provides an easy and fun way for real-time feedback from your students that is super engaging! https://getkahoot.com/
